Plates from Villeroy & Boch – Enough to make anyone hungry

Why the look is almost everything when it comes to plates

You can add a striking touch with cutlery, glasses and cups. But plates are the heart of crockery and define the effect of a table setting. Therefore, when choosing a set it is not unusual to use the beautiful dinner plates as the anchor. If the shape, pattern and size of the plates is right, the decision has all but been made. Each Villeroy & Boch collection sets the tone for the look you want with its own combination of material and design. Bring in a sense of warmth with a plate set made from our shimmering Premium Bone Porcelain, or use the bright white of Premium Porcelain for clean lines and pure shapes that define the look.
Never lose sight of a plate

While it is possible to cheat a little with the cutlery, kitchen plates stand out like a sore thumb. A plate with a different shape and colour that has been quickly added to a beautifully decorated breakfast table is like a wrong note at the opera. But it is easy to prevent such a visual cacophony: Villeroy & Boch has calculated the number of plates needed in a basic set for a range of family situations. A single person needs four soup plates, six dinner plates and six breakfast plates, while a couple with two children will need sixteen breakfast plates, sixteen dinner plates and twelve soup plates. Any plates needed in addition to this will depend on the household hobbies – barbecue fans will find barbecue plates essential, while those who like to spend creative afternoons with their bamboo mat will want to present their home-made maki rolls on a sushi plate.
    A passion for craftsmanship

Even in the 18th century, Villeroy & Boch set the highest standards for its porcelain. We produced our first plates by hand, meticulously decorated with the brindille pattern of little blue branches. Shortly afterwards, the Industrial Revolution made its mark on our factory, making parts of our work easier. We now had time to develop new materials, such as the innovative vitro porcelain, and to further refine our Premium Bone Porcelain with a higher proportion of calcinated bone ash. We were able to optimise our production processes more and more in order to improve our products. But no revolution can replace traditional craftsmanship. Even today, porcelain plates in various collections are still painted by hand and checked individually by our masters before they leave our factory.
A beautiful plate will not fill you up.

It will make you hungry Be it your favourite trousers or a good car, using beautiful things is fun time and time again. With the plates from Villeroy & Boch, laying the breakfast table early on a Sunday morning almost becomes a hobby, and you need to be careful that the dessert plate is not more beautiful than the mousse au chocolat you are serving on it. But there is no need to leave your guests after the digestif to spend hours at the sink. Almost all Villeroy & Boch plates are dishwasher–safe, so the washing-up takes even less time than the eating. Any leftovers? Just store them in the fridge right on the plate and reheat them in the microwave the next day.
